Happy Easter

By pure sheer luck I managed to be off work for five full days. Feeling the itch in my feet I decided to take myself down to Derry for a night. I was gonna go by myself, stay in a hostel, walk around, read my book and drink coffee. But there are two absolutely amazing people in Derry, Magda and Steve, who I met at university and hadn't seen in years. I dcided to give them a shout in case they fancied meeting. Then I realsied that Dirt Bird was home for Easter so she came along too and we had a lovely, lovely time. But it was more than just a lovely time for me. It was healing for my soul. If I spend too long without some kind of adventure I feel restless and discontent. I used to think that I had to travel half way round the world to settle this urge but I've realised that even just gettig out of Ballymena helps.

We met Magda and a few of her other friends and went to Sandino's where we were entertained by an eclectic mix of live music. We then headed back to Magda and Steve's where we were fed mojito's and pizza. The next day we had a lovely breakfast in their garden, a stroll along the beach and yummy icecream at a traditonal cafe. We were very well looked after.

Last night I was at my mate's birthday party. It was a fun night playing drinking games and being silly. Today I could really do with a mint frappe (my new favourite hangover cure) but I'm going to have to settle for juice and doughnuts. Oh well.

Happy Easter! I love your blog, it always bring a spark of quirky happiness to my day :)

This is my favourite bit in the whole blog! : "Thai people like to laugh and have fun (sanuk). If you get bit by a dog they will laugh. If you fall over they will laugh. If you crash your motorbike into a wall they will laugh. If someone makes an incredibly un P.C. comment about terrorism they will laugh. They don't mean any harm it's just the way they view life."

Aw thank you. Sometimes it's hard to know if what I'm writing is of any interest to anyone but myself. Especially when I don't live somewhere like Thailand to gie me good material!

don't sell yourself short! You have a wonderfully whismical writing style that somehow manages to make the mundane comic and interesting...

Although yea, I loved your writing about Thailand. I stumbled across your blog whilst looking out the mirror on a grey rainy day and feeling homesick. Would be amazing if you went back there for another long stint - if only because of the stories you'd have to tell!

Cheers, it's really enocuraging getting comments like that. I would love to go back to Thailand and teach again. I felt like my time was cut short there. And there was certainly plenty to write about. I recommend you check Hails' blog Coffee Helps. She's in South Korea and so many of her stories about it reminds me of Thailand.

Hi there, havent checked in for a while but great to see you writing lots again! Thanks for the recommendation - Hails blog is really interesting and thoughtful, although she seems to be quite funny but sad a lot of the time.

Im off to Thailand next month! I dont really blog and certainly dont write like you do, but you've tempted me to consider starting one myself...hmmm....

You must must must start a blog when you go to Thailand (if you have time as you will be having so much fun). I miss it so much, much more than S.America. It would be great to read about someone else's experiences out there. Remember to send me a link if you decide to join the blogosphere :)
